RoughRiders top Arkansas

After splitting the first two games of a three-game set against Arkansas, the RoughRiders came through with a 4-3 victory in the rubber match Tuesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The win came after a stellar pitching performance from starter Nicholas Tepesch, who tossed eight innings and surrendered just one run on six hits and one walk.

Tepesch would get a tough no decision though after the Frisco bullpen surrendered the lead in the late going of Tuesday’s game.

Relievers Miguel De Los Santos and Ryan Rodebaugh combined to pitch the final inning, giving up two runs on three hits and one walk.

The two ninth-inning runs by Arkansas knotted the game at three runs apiece and set up a potential walk-off situation in the home half of the inning.

Frisco, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, came through in the clutch and delivered a game-winning sacrifice fly to score the go-ahead run.

Infielder Chris McGuiness led off the inning with a walk before advancing to second on an Arkansas error.

With Jared Hoying moving both runners over with a sacrifice bunt, Ryan Strausborger delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly to seal a 4-3 Frisco victory.

The RoughRiders were off Wednesday with the team slated to begin a four-game road set against Corpus Christi yesterday.

Americans sign Ludwig

Defenseman Trevor Ludwig will return for a second campaign with the Allen Americans.

The team announced the signing of Ludwig Friday, bolstering a defensive core that resigned Mike Berube not long before.

Ludwig played just 13 games for the Americans last season, due to AHL call-ups and a season-ending injury.

A spot in the AHL is nothing new for the defender, whose career has included stops in Texas, Norfolk, Manitoba and Iowa over the past five years.

“I’m excited to be part of the Allen Americans organization again,” Ludwig said. “They made some positive changes in the front office and coaching that are big steps in the right direction. Mr. Miller has always wanted this to be as close to an NHL atmosphere as possible and I know those additions will improve that image.”

State VB moving to Garland

The tournament had been at Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos since 2000.

The state tourney is set for Nov. 15-17.

“UIL championship events make memories that last a lifetime,” said Dr. Curtis Culwell, Garland ISD Superintendent. “Garland ISD is privileged to host this premiere championship event.”

Lovejoy has won four straight state volleyball titles.
