Spa Castle grand opening postponed due to fire
By James Roth, jroth@starlocalnews.com
Spa Castle was set to have their grand opening tonight until a small fire filled parts of the building with smoke and carbon monoxide forcing everyone out of the building.
Carrollton Fire Chief John Murphy said the fire began in a sauna room in the north side of the building. While the fire was small, it did fill parts of the building with smoke which forced people to clear out the building.
“We were able to extinguish the fire with our fire lines, however, it filled the building with smoke,” he said. “There was also a lot of carbon monoxide in the air. We were able to bring in a fan from Dallas-Fort Worth Airport to help push the smoke out.”
“We had three ladder trucks, ten engines, four medical units and seven chief officers,” Murphy said. “It was a big commitment because we had a lot of territory to cover. We swept the building floor-by-floor and searched to make sure everyone was out of the building.”
Murphy said the fire department will do another walk through of the building before everyone is allowed back in.
It is unknown when the grand opening for the building will be at this time.
