Daddy Daughter Dance Feb. 25
By James Roth, jroth@acnpapers.com
Yesterday was Valentines Day, and couples all over spent time with the ones they care for most. On Feb. 25, men will get a chance to give their daughters a special night at the 6th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance.
The Carrollton Police Officers Association will be hosting the event from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Creekview High School. Cole Langston, Carrollton police officer and creator of the Daddy Daughter Dance, said the event is open to the public.
"Everyone is welcome as long as it is some type of daddy daughter combination," he said. "We understand that some fathers are not always there. We have had grandfathers or uncles come in the past and it is always a good time."
At the event there will be a variety of activities to entertain guests. Langston said there will be music for dancing, arts and crafts and a boutique for daughters to get their nails done.
"C's Florist and the Paul Mitchell Cosmetology Center are our sponsors once again this year," Langston said. "Fathers will be able to buy flowers or corsages for their daughters and Paul Mitchell will offer to fix up the daughters' nails on site. The girls really love it."
Each year the event has grown in size, last year 629 people attended the dance and Langston said he expects anywhere between 700-900 people for this year's event.
"Each year we get calls and people ask us about the dance," he said. "It has become something that parents and daughters really look forward to and it is all for a good cause."
All of the money raised from the dance goes toward the Carrollton Police Officers Association Benevolent Fund. Langston said the fund helps officers' families who are in need.
"The benevolent fund helps our officers and their families in so many ways, and this event is our biggest contribution to that," he said. "The fund helps families if an officer is hurt, killed in the line of duty or anything where a family may need our help."
Tickets are being sold online until Feb. 24 and are $10 per person. For information on the Daddy Daughter Dance or to purchase tickets online, go to cpoa2012.eventbrite.com/.
