Two Carollton-Farmers Branch ISD schools undergoing renovations
By Senitra Horbrook, Staff Writer
Students filled the halls and classrooms Monday in Carrollton as the new school year began. However, students and staff at two Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD schools, Blalack Middle and Country Place Elementary, may face some challenges dealing with renovations taking place throughout the year.
“On both campuses the campus administration has worked closely with architects and construction teams so students have the least impact as possible,” said Mark Hyatt, assistant superintendent of support services.
Blalack Middle School is undergoing a major renovation project to a large portion of existing classrooms. There are also some renovations and additions in the fine arts area and athletics field.
The football field is also being completely renovated to upgrade it to a lighted competition field.
“There is a large undeveloped field south of the middle school at Blalack,” Hyatt said. “We’ve developed a temporary field for students to practice on, it’s completely sodded and already on school property.”
The classrooms at Country Place Elementary School were also renovated during the summer.
“Ultimately, there will be new a kitchen, cafeteria and office suite,” Hyatt said. “We’ll be working on the kitchen, cafeteria and office throughout the first semester this year.”
Other renovations in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD include minor improvements to the visitor side at Standridge Stadium, including new restrooms and new ticket offices.
The district also opened the doors to two new schools Monday, La Villita Elementary in Irving and Nancy Strickland Intermediate just over the Carrollton border in Farmers Branch.
