Pharmacy robberies hit area cities
By Chris Roark, Staff Writer
Area police departments are working together to find a man who stole prescription painkillers from at least one pharmacy.
Carrollton police are looking for a man who robbed one CVS/Pharmacy on March 26 and attempted to rob another one. Coppell police are also looking for a man who attempted to rob a Walgreen’s on the same day.
This came a week after a similar situation happened in Flower Mound.
According to Sgt. Jack Adams of the Carrollton department, a white male went inside a CVS Pharmacy on the 4100 block of Hwy. 121 at 9:30 a.m. and demanded the painkiller Hydrocodone from a pharmacist. When the pharmacist refused, the man threatened to shoot the clerk, Adams said. He said the suspect reached for his waistband but never revealed a weapon. When the clerk called 911, the man ran away.
Adams said the same suspect went to the CVS/Pharmacy on the corner of North Josey Lane and Keller Springs an hour later to do the same thing. This time, Adams said, the man got away with an unknown amount of prescription drugs.
In between the two incidents, a man attempted to rob the Walgreen’s Pharmacy in the 300 block of North Denton Tap Road in Coppell.
According to police documents, a white man in his mid-20s demanded Hydrocodone or said he would start shooting. Before the clerk could respond, the man left the store without taking anything, the report stated.
“We’re working with the other agencies to see if it’s the same person,” Adams said. “Based on the description, we think it’s the same person.”
On March 19, Flower Mound Police responded to a robbery call at Pharmacy & Herbal, located at 1001 Cross Timbers Road.
According to a police report, the suspect raised his shirt to reveal a handgun and gave an employee a note demanding OxyContin, a brand of Oxycodone. He stole 11 bottles that contained 784 pills, valued at about $3,778.
OxyContin is a strong and very addictive narcotic pain reliever, and Hydrocodone is a similar medication but of less strength.
The suspect is described as a white male with brown hair in his mid-20s, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds. He was wearing a desert tan camouflage ball cap and jacket, gray or brown “Dickies” style work pants and prescription-style eyeglasses. He left the scene in a silver Toyota two-door car with a spoiler on the back with license plate number TX Z75-PWZ, which police said were stolen off another vehicle in Lewisville.
