C-FB offers tickets to Stars games
March 19 is the final C-FB-sponsored game, when the Dallas Stars play Anaheim. Tickets are $25 for any upper level seats.

Spring break for Carrollton-Farmers Branch students is through March 21. All teachers and students will be off from school. March 24 is also a district holiday if it is not used as a make-up day for bad weather.
Nasher petitions teachers to nominate students for art institute
The Nasher Sculpture Center announces the launch of the “Nasher Summer Institute for Teens,” a 5-day art curriculum for teacher-nominated high school students in grades 10-12. The institute, which is funded by a grant from the O’Donnell Foundation, will take place June 16-20. It is designed exclusively for Dallas/Fort Worth area students interested in pursuing art-related fields in college. Teacher recommendations were accepted beginning March 14.
Focused sessions will include special issues in sculpture, studio art, close study of works in the Nasher Collection and behind-the-scenes interaction with Nasher staff and visiting artists. Tuition for participating students is free and includes class materials, art supplies, transportation stipends and lunches. Enrollment is limited to 30 students and participants will be selected based on teacher recommendations. Contact the Education Department at 214-242-5170 for information and applications.
Special Ed PTSA changes meeting time
The Lewisville ISD Special Ed PTSA has moved its meeting to March 26. The event will be from 7-9 p.m. at the Student Services Building, located at 400 W. Main Street. The program will discuss the Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) and Medicare Waiver Programs with Leslie Canales, Denton County MHMR.
Also, Community Based Alternatives (CBA), Community Living Assistance and Support Services (CLASS), Deaf/Blind with Multiple Disabilities (DBMD), Home and Community Service (HCS), and Medically Dependent Children’s Program (MDCP) will be covered.

Troyanns offer dance clinic
The Newman Smith Troyanns annual spring dance clinic for students in kindergarten through 12th grade is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 29. The event will be at Newman Smith High School, 2335 N. Josey Lane. Cost is $35 per student, which includes a free T-shirt, lunch and program for parents. Brownie/Girl Scout dance badges will also be awarded upon request. To ensure T-shirt and badge availability, send registrations by Thursday to Kristi Hooker at kristi.hooker@verizon.net.
Walk-up registrations at the door will also be accepted. The show-off program for parents will be from 1-2 p.m. March 29. Crafts, face painting, snacks and a bake sale are also planned for the day.
Elementary auctions Witten jersey
The sixth annual Rainwater PTA silent auction is at 7 p.m. April 1 at Rainwater Elementary. The Rainwater PTA is selling raffle tickets for a signed Jason Witten Jersey. The cost for a single raffle ticket is $2, or three tickets for $5. Contact PTA president Kelley Cordray at tkcordray@verizon.net or purchase tickets through the school office. Rainwater Elementary is at 1408 E. Frankford Road.
Smith sells engraved bricks for new walkway
Newman Smith High School PTSA is selling engraved bricks for the “new traditions” walkway. The bricks are 4 inches by 8 inches and can be customized with three lines of text and a logo for $35. A larger brick, 8 inches by 8 inches, can be customized with up to six lines of text and two logos. The money supports the scholarship fund of the Newman Smith High School PTA. Scholarship deadline approaching
The deadline for the Tom Harpool Horticultural Scholarship, which is being offered by the Denton County Master Gardener Association, is March 31. The Tom Harpool Horticultural Scholarship was created to assist and encourage students enrolled in the study of horticulture or other gardening-related subjects. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to any Denton County resident who is currently enrolled in a horticulture or related major at any college or university.
To apply for the scholarship, go to www.dcmga.com and click on “Scholarship.” Print the application, complete it and mail with proof of enrollment and two letters of recommendation to DCMGA Scholarship Committee, c/o M. Scholarship available for students in health professions
Trinity Medical Center Volunteer's Auxiliary has a scholarship open to all high school students attending any public or private high school within the city limits of Carrollton, as well as The Colony High School.
Those eligible to apply must:
•Plan to attend a Texas university or college;
•Major in a health-related field;
•Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
•Have a minimum score of 1000 on the SAT and 22 on the ACT ; and
•Volunteer a minimum of 60 hours, cumulative, during their high school career.
Applications may be picked up in the high schools' counseling offices or from the Trinity Medical Center information desk.

Furneaux offers scholarship to an alumnus
The Michael Ebanks Alumni Scholarship is a $550 award given yearly to one student who attended Furneaux Elementary. Michael Ebanks was a former Furneaux Elementary student who died in the collapse of the Texas A&M bonfire on Nov. 18, 1999. In honor of him, the Furneaux PTA has established the Michael Ebanks Alumni Scholarship. Students can pick up an application at the high school counselor's office. Chick-fil-A, Lenny’s Subshop host band fundraisers
Every Thursday from 2:30-9 p.m., Lenny’s Subshop in Carrollton will donate 15 percent of purchases to the Hebron marching band. Lenny’s Subshop is located at 3220 E Hebron Parkway. The Hebron color guard is also hosting a fundraiser the first Tuesday of each month at Chick-Fil-A, located at Plano Parkway and Park Boulevard in Plano. Mention Hebron when you place your order, and a portion of your purchase will support the guard.
District hosts teacher job fair
The C-FB school district will have a job fair from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 5 at Ranchview High School, 8401 Valley Ranch Parkway East in Irving. For information, call the personnel office at 972-968-6161.
Special Ed hosts resource fair
The LISD Special Ed PTSA welcomes parents and students to share information about serving the special needs community. Visitors will discuss sports, therapists, summer camps, lawyers, financial planners and other professionals who work with special education students. The event is from 10 a.m. to noon April 26 at Killough High School North, 1301 Summit Ave. in Lewisville.
Newman Smith drill team hosts tryouts
The Troyann Drill Team will hold line tryouts for the 2008-09 school year at 4:30 p.m. May 22 at the freshman gym at Newman Smith High School. Tryout workshops to prepare for the actual tryout are also required, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. May 19-21. In addition, an informational meeting will be held for parents and prospective drill team members at 7-8 p.m. April 21 in room Community Room SE 151 at the high school. Prior dance experience is not required to participate.
