AARP provides tax assistance
Volunteers with the American Association of Retired Persons provide free tax return assistance noon-8 p.m. on Mondays through April 16 at the Carrollton Public Library at Hebron & Josey. Bring relevant tax documents and identification. The Carrollton Public Library at Hebron and Josey is located at 4220 N. Josey Lane. Trinity offers scholarship opportunity
Library offers Internet safety course
On Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., the Carrollton Public Library at 4220 N. Josey Lane will offer a two-hour course on Internet safety. Maggie Jover of the Texas Cooperative Extension Service will present ways to avoid contact with online predators. Participants will receive a continuing education certificate upon completion. Class is open individuals ages 14 and older. Call 972-466-4800 or visit the library to register.
Police offer women’s self-defense class
The Carrollton Police Department will offer a Rape Aggression Defense class for women 1-7 p.m. March 3-4. The Rape Aggression Defense system, or R.A.D., is a comprehensive course for women 18 and older. Instruction includes awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance as well as the basic hands-on defense training. Instructors are Officers Lauryl Duncan and Shannon Hartzell.
The class will be held at the Carrollton Police Department, 2025 E. Jackson Road. Cost is $5. To register, contact Officer Hartzell at 972-466-3316 or shannon.hartzell@cityofcarrollton.com.
Sustaining Carrollton presentation at Senior Center February 21
Keep Carrollton Beautiful invites residents to a community presentation by city officials on “Sustainable Carrollton” at the Carrollton Senior Center 7-9 p.m. tonight. Peter Braster, Transit-Oriented Development Manager, and Brad Mink, Economic Development Director, will present information on the planned DART light rail service in Carrollton and growth opportunities surrounding the station areas. The Carrollton Senior Center is located at 1700 Keller Springs.
